Bone
Marrow Donor Drive Set
Feb
25, 2004 11:34 am US/Eastern Pittsburgh (KDKA) Dozens of
volunteers are looking for a needle in a haystack. They call
themselves "Amy's Army," and they are trying to help an eleven-year
old girl from Mt. Lebanon.
Amy Katz has a rare form of
leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant, but of the eight
million people in the International Bone Marrow Registry -- not one
person is a match.
Now her "Army" is hoping someone from the
area -- who isn't on the registry -- will turn out to be a
lifesaving match for Amy.
The group is organizing a free
screening this weekend in the South Hills.
The donor drive
will be held this Sunday from 10am until 4pm at Temple Emanuel on
Bower Hill Road.
